Better Beginnings was founded in 2006 after DHEC Home Health, where I was working at the time, encouraged its pediatric therapists to pursue independent practice while continuing to serve children on their existing caseloads. At the time, Medicaid limitations on billing for nursing, social work, and therapy services meant that children were quickly exhausting their allowable hours. With the knowledge and resources needed to practice independently as an occupational therapist, I took the step of launching my own practice, beginning with the 18 children on my DHEC caseload. Better Beginnings was built on a deep commitment to helping children overcome developmental delays and start life with the strongest possible foundation—a “better beginning.” I believed this passion would sustain and grow the practice, and it has remained the driving force behind Better Beginnings ever since. In 2009, we opened our first office space and expanded our services to include speech and physical therapy. We continued to serve children throughout the Upstate in their homes and other natural environments, as well as in our clinic. Knowing that a team approach is an essential part of a child’s success, we later added early intervention services to further support children and their families. I believe children are a gift from God, and I am honored to have been given a passion for serving them.
